Do Drug Tests Check For Urine Temperature?

Components of any test related sample survive at a certain temperature. If we talk about blood , different components of blood like red blood cells, plasma leukocytes survive at different temperatures. It is not the case with urine. All the components of urine survive at the same temperatures.

Temperature is one of the biggest factors which can affect laboratory tests. This is why the temperature of a particular urine sample has to be maintained for accurate test results. When a drug test is done on a urine sample. Temperature of both, the person who is being tested and their urine are recorded for accuracy.

The temperature of our urine depends on our whole body’s temperature.  This is the reason why the container in which we collect our urine for testing seems warm as it is a product of our inner body temperature. You can read this post on how much urine is needed for drug test.

urine specimen temperature

Urine which has to be tested should have a temperature between the range of 90 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Which is 32 to 38-degrees in celsius.  Immediately after the donor provides the urine specimen to the collector, including specimens of less than 30 mL but greater than 15 mL, the collector will measure the temperature of the specimen. The temperature-measuring device used will accurately reflect the temperature of the specimen and not contaminate the specimen. The time from urination to temperature measurement should not exceed 4 minutes. If the temperature of a urine specimen is outside the range of 90 °F to 100 °F (32 °C to 38 °C), that is a reason to believe the donor may have altered or substituted the specimen.

Thing which has to be kept in mind while presenting a drug test urine sample is to maintain body temperature. Before collecting the sample avoid doing sweat releasing activities or staying in heat because when your body temperature is matched with the urine sample it has to be in the same range.

Plus the temperature of your sample also depends upon the container. There are special containers/ cups available today for urine collection which can maintain its temperature for a period of seventy-two hours. Mostly all the laboratories today use this kind of cup for collection. Challenging a positive drug test is next to impossible as there are very few cases recorded where due to the laboratory’s fault drug test comes positive.
